Walk and Talk French - Marchez en parlant français
Next walk / La prochaine balade
Sunday 19 January at 8:50am
Here’s an opportunity for some French conversation practice while enjoying a pleasant walk. This month it’s an easy return walk along Rabbit Island beach, 3 km or 45 minutes to an hour each way. This time of year the beach is at its best in the morning before the sea breeze comes up, so we’ll start at 8:50am sharp from the western end (see directions below) and walk to Mapua Inlet. We can then take the 10:10am ferry across the inlet for a quick 40 minute coffee before returning from Mapua on the 11:00am ferry to walk back to the cars by about midday.
The coffee time is a bit short but there’s an extra hour’s wait for the next ferry back otherwise. You are of course welcome to stay longer at Mapua if you’d like. Ferry tickets can be booked at this link and it’s recommended you do so in case of space restriction.
The road layout at Rabbit Island has recently been changed, so directions to the start are:
1. On arrival at the main intersection near the beach, turn left at the OLD DOMAIN sign.
2. Stay on the seal until turning LEFT into TOTARA DOMAIN.
3. Just follow the unsealed road until arriving on the beach front. Park right there.
A map can be found here.
We’ll start from the yellow pedestrian access no.2 sign on the map.
